Emergency water line repairs on Garden Ridge Boulevard will affect traffic for the next few days after a leak was found.
The town’s public works department is repairing a 12-inch water line at the intersection of Garden Ridge Boulevard and Flower Mound Road.
A leak was found on Wednesday and once uncovered, workers determined that the area to be repaired was under the pavement of Garden Ridge Boulevard.
The leak was likely caused by ground movement and is common after extreme weather changes.
“We had a very long dry stretch of summer, then a large rain event. That can cause significant movement of soils which leads to water main breaks from time to time,” said Brian Waltenburg, director of public works.
While work is underway, all northbound lanes of Garden Ridge Boulevard from Flower Mound Road to Lancashire Drive will be closed. Northbound traffic will be shifted to one of the southbound lanes.
The westbound right turn lane from Flower Mound Road to Garden Ridge Boulevard will also be closed.
The repairs are expected to take up to a week.
