After LISD start times change, Flower Mound takes school zone times off signs

Even though most school zone signs around town have flashing yellow lights when the speed limit is lower, some drivers have been left in the dark about when to expect those changes.
After LISD changed its school start times by adding ten minutes to each day and swapping when high school and middle school students begin class, the Town of Flower Mound removed most signs showing the times when the school zone is in place.
The town saved about $20,000 by doing that, Town Manager James Childers said, because of the money and time it would cost to print new signs and put them up.
Now, drivers must look for the yellow flashing lights indicating the speed limit is lower than usual.
“If it's flashing, assume school is in place,” Childers said.
Some neighborhood signs without flashing lights still have the old times on them.
For those who want to plan their commutes and avoid the slowdown that school zones can bring, the town is creating a website with time and location information.
Here is a guide of when you can expect a school zone in place based on the type of school. Some school zones are different because of their proximity to two schools, or if it is an early release day.
